① It's quite tough to gain weight while participating in club activities My weight was 58kg when I entered university. I started muscle training around my second year in college and managed to increase my weight to about 63-64kg by the third year. However, I was barely able to gain weight until I retired. I believe this was because the calories I burned by participating in club activities five days a week were extremely high, leaving insufficient energy for muscle hypertrophy. After retiring from the club activities and joining a research lab, I have now managed to increase my weight to 71kg by focusing on my diet and training.
② Body weight and manageable weights This May, I achieved a 100kg bench press. I think one of the factors behind this is my increased body weight. Indeed, I have the impression that the heavier your body weight, the wider the range of weights you can lift. I also feel that the weight I can handle has increased even when I'm training other parts of my body.
③ In order to surpass my past self I started keeping a record of my training from this May. This is because it helps me to clearly know how many kgs and how many times I lifted last time, and to consciously try to increase the weight or the number of reps even a little bit.
